In Microsoft Word the names of old documents appear after
the documents have long gone. How do I remove the names?
I was told to go into Windows Explorer. I have tried many
times but fail to remove the old documents names. Thanks

If you're talking about the files listed at the bottom of the file menu,
then turn off the recent file list from tools|options|general tab. This will
clear the list and after that you can turn the recent file list back on.

Open a bunch of current documents, forcing the old, deleted names to drop of
the Most Recently Used (MRU) list. So far, I haven't been able to find
where the list is stored in the Registry. There is a list of Recent Files
in C:\C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent, but deleting the shortcuts there seem to have
no effect on what Word displays.
