deleting programs

i am having trouble removing programs from my computer. i
deleted some programs without using the add/remove
program from the control panel. it still lists those
programs in the add/remove program lists even though it
shows that they take up no space. my question is how do i
remove those programs from the list? when i try it says
that it cannot find the uninstall file for the programs.
i would appreciate if someone could tell me how to remove
them from my list.

You should never manually delete a program if it has an uninstall. Always
uninstall from the add/remove panel. To completely uninstall the program
correctly, reinstall the program then uninstall from add/remove.
To get rid of the entry in add/remove and not uninstall it correctly, when
xp can't find the uninstall program it should then say, do you want to
remove the entry from add/remove. Say yes.
