Deleting/installing AVG Free Edition

After problems, tried to delete AVG 6 - would not delete - message
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32|\AUTOEXEC.NT - The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS & Microsoft Windows applications. Choose close to terminate
the application"
Any help appreciated

This is sometimes caused by a virus or anti-virus app deleting the autoexec.nt
file
in %SystemRoot%\System32 folder.

Do a search for the autoexec.nt file.

You should have another copy in %SystemRoot%\Repair folder. If so, copy it to
the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. If not, see the MSKB article below.

It may be advantageous to change its file attribute to read-only.

That file is needed to run 16 bit programs - and AVG setup is a 16 bit
program. There is a trojan about that damages the file. You can copy a
reserve version of it from windows\repair into windows\system32 but if
the trojan is loading at boot it will just get damaged again. I have
also seen it stated that this damage can occur when installing the AVAST
anti-virus
