Why is it taking 10 seconds to delete each mail from my Outlook 2007 archive
folder? I may have over 500 to delete but need to examine each one before
deleting. Even after it is displayed in the preview window it takes 10
seconds to delete before I can go on to the next one. These do not have
any attachments.

is the archive stored on your hard drive? How large is the archive?

Diane,

archive is 164,169kB and is regularly compacted

size is ok, it's stored locally, correct? are you using shift+delete or just
moving them to the deleted folder?

Diane,

Stored locally. I am suspecting that Windows Desktop Search may be the
contributing to the delay. Interesting though as when I tried Shift Delete
it was much faster. Does using Shift delete eliminate the recycle bin?

yes, shift+del skips the deleted items folder. Is the deleted folder empty?
if it has a large # of items that could cause it to be slow.

Diane,

It is empty and set to empty when outlook closes

Beemer
