deleting files takes an eternity

since some time, deleting files in my computer takes a lot
of time, the index server is disabled, I've emptied my
trash can, and eventhough it still takes more than 1
minute to delete a single file!!

Any idea around?

First, remove the sound played when you empty Recycle Bin. Next, try deleting a dummy test file without sending it to the Recycle Bin. If the process is fast, then you need reduce the Recycle Bin size.

Additionally, try defragmenting the hard drive. You will definitely experience performance improvement.
