XP takes "forever" to delete files

Hi all
I am getting more and more frustrated at the time it takes this
computer to delete files that are on the computer itself (not on the
network). My other computers have pretty much the same software (and
more software) and delete pretty much instantly but this machine (XP
sp3) takes anything up to 30 seconds to bring up the "preparing to
delete" box and the same or longer to bring up the confirm file delete
box.

Antivirus and anti-malware are up to date, 2 gig ram, HP 6730s laptop

Any suggestions?

Thanks

What happens while in Safe Mode?

This means that there is an "agent" on your machine that interferes with
Windows while in Normal Mode. I suspect a virus or malware. Reboot in Safe
Mode with Networking, then get onto www.antivirus.com and look for "House
Call" to scan your machine. It's free.

You say your your other systems are pretty much the same and things
work pretty much instantly and your antivirus and anti-malware are up
to date.

What antivirus and anti-malware are you running?

Reduce the number of questions, guessing and trying things that might
work maybe by supplying more information:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select
All, Copy and then paste
back here.

There would be some personal information (like System Name and User
Name) or whatever appears to be only your business that you can delete
from the paste.

Reduce the chances of malicious software by running some scans.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs
then resolve any remaining issues:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

These can be uninstalled later if desired.
