Deleting files from the All Users\My Music Folder

Running XP Home
P4 2.0Ghz 512 RAM
80GB Seagate External HD

I recently purchased an external hard drive and am in the process of moving
my music and picture files to it. I have moved the entire My Music folder
from my log on to my new drive, however, I am not able to delete the files
that are present at the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Documents\My Music
They are identical.

1. Are they taking up space on my main hard drive?

2. Why can't I move or delete them? There is nothing checked in the file
sharing box.

3. What if anything can I do to remove them if they are in fact taking up
space on my main drive?

Thanks in advance!

Protected from what? They were duplicated on my C drive somehow and I would
like to remove them now that I no longer have them on my C drive. What is
the process for "unprotecting" this folder so I may remove its contents?

They are win sys files and as such are protected by win
Whilst you cannot delete the folders you can delete the contents
PS Did you move the whole My Documents folder (It contains various My **
folders)
rt click My Documents, on the desktop, properties, move to wherever. The
entire My Documents contents will then be moved to the new location,
allthough you will still have a My Documents folder in C:\Docs & Settings.

Hi DL - Thank you for responding and trying to help me.

I have tried deleting just the contents as well and that did not work. No,
I did not move my entire My Documents folder. I created a new My Music
folder on the new drive and moved the files from the C drive to the new
external drive (F). I do not know how or why the same files exsist in the
shared folder but they are duplicates and can be removed. There is over 2 GB
I can gain back on my main drive if I can delete the contents of the shared
folder.

I even tried changing the files from read only and that did not work. I
just don't know what else to do and from the looks of it, it would seem that
I am just going to have to live with them there until I reformat.

My thanks to you and anyone who can lend some insight...

Assuming you access the folder through Explorer, if you highlight a single
file and delete, is there any err msg?
If so *exact* msg is?

Yes. Here is the error msg. Sorry for not including it previously.

ERROR DELETING FILE OR FOLDER

Cannot delete ***** *******: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

The disk is not full.
It is not write-protected.
It is not in use--that I know of. Its a music file. I am not knowingly
accessing it when I am trying to delete it. I even tried un-sharing my
primary My documents folder. That has had no effect.

Thanks for working with me on this.

A couple of things to try;
Ensure you dont have any media player type apps running in the background,
or cd burning apps.
Ensure My Music Folder is not shared, in any Tab
Check the Security Tab to ensure you have full permissions.
If you dont have permissions, log on as Administrator
Lastly try in Safe Mode
