Deleting e-mail in OE

Since we switched to cable high speed Internet, we've
been using OE to send and receive e-mail. In AOL we
could just delete or send to SPAM any suspicious looking
mail WITHOUT opening it. This doesn't seem to be the
case with OE. How can I keep incoming mail from
automatically opening in OE?

If you turn off the Preview pane (View->Layout... and uncheck the
option) you will be able to select and delete messages in the header
pane without them opening (you have to double-click to open them in
another window).

Turn off the Preview pane. View> Layout. Delete the obvious junk mails.
Then if you want, turn Preview pane back on for easy reading of the mails
that you kept.

PS: May want to set your "Read" settings to always read in Plain Text as
well. HTML email will look like heck but they won't pull any fancy tricks
on you.

The best way is to get a spam progran and delete it
before it gets intoo your system. here is a free one,
there are many

http://www.mailwasher.net, make sure you get some
filters, you can download them in FAQ area.

The pro Mailwasher is better , but you have to buy it.

snakysmom,

In addition to the excellent advice you have been given, you can also add
the Preview button to your OE Toolbar by clicking on the Toolbar, select
Customize, then highlight the Preview button in the left window and click
Add. This will allow you to toggle the Preview pane on and off from the OE
Toolbar.

Hi Sanky's Mom - In addition to the approach of toggling the Preview pane on
and off, there's also another way you can do this while leaving the Preview
pane on. With the Headers shown above and nothing in the Preview pane ("No
message selected") which is the condition you'll have just after downloading
and selecting the Bulk Mail folder, click in the extreme lower left corner
of the Header pane (not in line with any header) to shift the focus to the
Header pane. Now do a CNTL-A to Select All. Now do a CNTL-SHFT-A to
MarkAllAsRead. (In case you were thinking you could just do the
MarkAllAsRead, trust me - you need to do the Select All first) Now click on
Delete OR, if you only want to selective delete some of them (for example,
this isn't a folder such as Hotmail Bulk Mail where you might want to just
delete them all) , then hold down CNTL and click on the ones you want to
keep to de-select them, then hit Delete to get rid of the others. (BTW, the
ones you de-select will not be opened by the de-selection process.) You're
done with all unwanteds gone, and you've never opened a message.
