deleting dekstop icon

Robin Goodfellow

Hi,

I have installed Office 2000 on the network, NT4 servers and the
workstations are running Windows 98. The network is actually in a school
which is running RM connect on top of winodws, not sure if anyone has any
experience with this as it is really on used in education.

The problem is that when I delete the outlook icon from the destop it
returns as soon as the machine has been rebooted. With RM it is possible to
do a scan of the registry and have the workstations boot up with these
registery settings, I tried doing this scan after manually deleting the icon
from the registry but it seems that this won't work either, it's as if
Outlook doesn't actually write the icon to the desktop until the machine has
totally booted up so the fact that it has been deleted previously makes no
difference. I know this seems like a minor problem but I would prefer that
the children do not have access to this application unless it has been
specifically allocated to them.

Would a script file at the logon be a solution to this? It's not a road I
would like to go down but if I have to I will.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated as I totally run out of ideas.

Thanks in advance.
