Hi. I'm having the same problem. All the photos in My Pictures end up as
options for Desktop Background in the Display Properties box. I've been
trying to find a way to remove these photos from the desktop background
options without having to delete them for good from My Pictures. No luck.
I've read several messages posted here, and most point to
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/background.htm as a solution. I've gone there, but
I don't understand half of it -- the names, symbols, the instructions -- it's
written in a language for people with more IT skills.

Can anyone tell me, in simple terms, how to disable whatever it is that is
enabling my pictures to end up in the desktop background list? I do not want
to delete the photos from my pictures, I just want to have the option of
deciding which ones may be used for desktop background and/or be able to stop
all of them from showing in the list.

Thanks!

I don't think there is a workaround / setting for this. For some, this
problem is intermittent, and some others were able to resolve the problem by
relocating the My Pictures folder to a different drive. The latter method,
however, did not work in my system.

Why'd you tag onto someone elses post?
Anyway...

Start button --> RUN --> type in:

%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\

--> Click OK.

When the directory opens, see if the file "Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp"
is the picture you were looking for.

i really appreciate the quick response, but no success. after i typed your
directions, the box that comes up only has a "quick Launch" file [which is
empty] ,a "brndlog.bak" file , and a "brndlog.txt" file . i opened the text
file and it has a notepad document with numerous lines with the date 7/24/06.
i think that is when we bought this computer. i have tried all of the other
approaches that have been suggested. what about reloading the windows
program? is that difficult?

Set that wallpaper as the default > Open Regedit.exe
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Right side, the Wallpaper value-data is the path of the file

Good Luck, Ayush.

my panic has lowered...the wallpaper re booted when i re started. i did a
system restore...the file came back....i was able to follow it and delete
it....if you need to help anyone else, you need to right click on "wallpaper
value" ...modify....and delete the wording first. i deleted the file first
and now i can't get rid of the words. but i can definetly live with that.
and my wife is coming home this afternoon.....i cannot thank you
enough....this is the ultimate fix for this problem!!!!
