Deleted svchost.exe file -

My friend found a virus inside his svchost.exe file in
home xp. Well, he couldn't clean it with norton and every
time he opened explorer it would mess with norton. He
deleted. Its sitting in his recycle bin but he has no
write capabiltys and no task bar. Any suggestions to try
other then reinstalling? He keeps most of his school work
on his desktop and it would be a huge set back to have to
redo it.

Try copying a new version of the file from your XP CD in recovery console.
