Deleted Registary Key

Hello
About a week ago i was haveing a problem playing a large avi file. It would not open. I posted a qurey at spywareinfo and was told to delete a registary key that caused large avi files to use all my CPU resources and never open
Since i do not know a lot about computers i did as was suggested. Now none of my avi files will work, After the reg. key was deleted i was told i should have made a backup file and saved it.
My question, is ther a way to restore the reg. key i deleted or is there somewhere i can go to download or purchase the needed key?
I was told at the fourm that i would need to find another pg just like mine to be able to get the key. Is this correct

Hi there,

Run System Restore (start->Programs->Accessories->System
Tools->System Restore) to restore your computer to a date
before you deleted the registry key. This should take care
of your current problem of not being able to play any .avi
files.

As for the problem that you were having with playing large
..avi files, you should be able to find a fix on one of the
MVP's sites listed at the bottom of this post.

Just for your knowledge, the registry is a very finicky
part of Windows. If you don't know what you're doing, don't
play with it. If you are going to play with it, export all
of your registry keys to a safe location on your hard
drive. Click Start->Run, and type in "regedit" (without
quotation marks). In the left hand pane, scroll all the way
up and click on "My Computer" so that it is highlighted.
Click on File->Export. Save the file to a safe location on
your hard drive.

Thank you nkjg for your response. I have tried 6 different restore points but each time i am told my pc could not be restored. I went back almost 7 weeks but keep getting the same results. I will keep trying

What Registry Key did you delete?

Do you have a link to the article/message/whatever that includes
whatever instructions you're referring to? So someone could look
at what you're talking about.

That is [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32] Would this key affect my being able to use system restore?

I very much doubt that the deletion of this key has any affect on System
Restore.

From what little I just read, you were supposed to delete the
InProcServer32 folder. That said.

Do you still have this key???

The reg key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850
C73E}\InProcServer32] was deleted and no copy was made before i deleted it. After the fact i was told to make a copy and save it before i delete it. Each HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID has a folder that is " InProcSever32
The key {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32] is what i deleted. I hope this helps

Install ERUNTand backup your Registry.
Read the README.TXT that comes with it.

You may want to run NTREGOPT.EXE reboot and the

Sorry for not replying earlier but thesae 14-16 hour work days are a B****. :-
I do not see a wes.txt file attached. i did go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm 74 avi search restore and
downloaded it. The only thing i could do wit it was add it to my regestry which i did. Hope i did the right thing. :-
I've learned more from this than i thought was possilbe. I will be back about 9:00 PST and check to see if adding the AVI search restore did anything

Sorry to take so long to respond but i've been real busy. I went to Kellys-corner and downloaded the search and restore. After i rebooted i checked the regestry and found that the missing key was there. I have been able to play avi files. ) THANK YOU!!!! I realize this has taken a lot of your time and i am extremely greatful for all your help
