Deleted domain user; stranded offline files

Here's the strange situation I find the machine in:

1. The machine (laptop) was part of domain DOM.
2. User jdoe was a domain user.
3. A rule in DOM was that My Documents was mapped to a server share,
which was then marked Available Offline.
4. User DOM\jdoe last synched 5/1/07.
5. Around 6/30/07, the machine was removed from the domain, and local
user jdoe was set up. DOM\jdoe was deleted.
6. There are now about 20 files that are on the laptop, but not
synchronized. I can see them on the laptop ("\\server\Clients\jdoe
\jdoe's Documents\*.*") with their little "synchronized" icon, but I'm
not allowed to open them as jdoe, or administrator.
7. The files aren't on the server, so I can't get them from there.

Any suggestions? I searched Groups, but couldn't find anyone else
that managed to do anything this dumb :).

What is the message you get when trying to copy these files?
Access denied?

If so - you are looking too hard at the issue - it is a simple case of "the
Domain jdoe owned the files and access was limited to JUST the domain
jdoe"... Just take ownership of said files as an administrative level
user...

Any attempt to take ownership or change security gets nowhere, as the
laptop believes these files are on the server and does not provide any
of the standard Permissions/Security tabs. I haven't been able to
find the "shadow" copies referable via a local drive\folder\subfolder
path; are they out there somewhere?
