Delete OUs by mistake - HELP!

K

kwele

I'm not even a newbie, so please have patience.

I added two Windows 2003 servers (DCs) to a Windows 2000 network. Once
dcdiag was OK, I demoted the old Windows 2000 server. However, that
computer remained in the AD.

I went through KB 216498 (How To Remove Data in Active Directory After
an Unsuccessful Domain Controller Demotion) carefully until the step
about deleting the Domain NC container. It said to use ADSIEdit to
remove that container. It would not delete. I changed the value of
UserAccountControl to 4096 as it said to to, but still said 'Access
Denied'.

There were 6 item subordinate to that container - 3 printers and NTFRS
subscriptions, IASIdentity and RouterIdentity objects. I deleted all
these items. Then I was able to delete the Domain container.

I think I made a big mistake. When I go back and look at the remaining
Windows 2003 DCs, each has NTFRS subscriptions, but neither have the
IASIdentity and RouterIdentity objects.

Is there any hope? So far, I don't notice anything odd on the network
and dcdiag shows OK.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, pre-Newbie
