I demoted a domain controller gracefully and successfully few month ago.
However, I keep getting the Warning event in the remaining DCs telling me
that the domain controller (the live one) 'the file replication service is
having trouble enabling replication (the-Dead-domain-controller-name) to
(this DC name) for \\?\g\WinNt\Sysvoldomain using the DNS name ...will keep
trying...' The Event ID is 13508. In other words, the live domain
controllers are still trying to replicate with the demoted domain
controller. I tried to look for the demoted DC server in Active Directory
Users and Computers and in the Active Directory Sites and Services, but I
could not fine it (I remember the server name remained in the Directory
Sites and Services and I deleted it one week after the demotion). I tried
very hard to find if there is any article in the web will help to resolve
the problem but I could not find one. Even though the network is
functioning fine, but I prefer to clean up the AD so to get rid of the
demoted controller in its entirety. Please help. Thank you.
