My query is in regard to a folder named NPROTECT in
C:\RECYCLER. It is used by Norton SystemWorks. When I
uninstalled NSW, NPROTECT wasn't removed, nor was 5.7GB of
deleted files that couldn't be permanently deleted (error
message: files not found or already opened).

I found the following command-line entries for the removal
of NPROTECT:

C:
CD\
CD RECYCLER\NPROTECT
DEL *.*
Y
CD ..
RD NPROTECT
EXIT

When I type in COMMAND and hit OK I get this: C:\DOCUME~1
\JOHND~1>. This is the prompt I input the list of commands
to, not C:\.

It complained that it "couldn't find the files," and "the
directory wasn't empty", but it worked -- partially. I
still have the folder, but it's size is now only 949MB.
Further attempts to delete do no good. I think it was a
mixture of two user profiles, and apparently I'm not
setting up the correct prompt for removing what remains.

Should I try changing the prompt to another username such
as C:\DOCUME~1\ADMIN~1>, then use the same commands and
see if it will clear the final 949MB and the NPROTECT
folder?

Where would I find the remaining EXACT usernames to insert
into the prompt?

Well, John, you certainly don't seem to have impressed any
of our MVPs with your dumb question. It could be that
basic DOS is over their little gyz-whizzing heads. Ask
something about a video card, or email, or keyboard
shortcuts -- that'll get 'em hopping.

One word of caution, John: never contact an MVP if you
represent one of the following agendas:

1) Baby
2) Little Girl.

As soon as I get spam solved, I'll tackle this personally.
I always wanted to learn a little DOS, myself. . .
