Day before yesterday I posted the question that led to this thread:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...&tid=f806bb3a-e8b0-4f9c-b251-f74293cd9500&p=1
The last post suggested that I run a disk usage program. Good tip, Andy. I
downloaded Foldersizes ( http://www.foldersizes.com/ ) and it found
c:Recycler\nprotect, which was taking up about 30 GB - more or less the
amount of missing disk space. Now, the problem is getting rid of it. The
folder claims to not have been altered since Jan 3 (a day after I
reformatted), and I've re-installed Norton since then, in case this is an
issue.
I've tried two ways of deleting Recycler. The first is spelled out here:
http://www.x-ways.net/winhex/forum/messages/4/724.html . I tried several of
the variations listed on that page. None did anything. I don't really
understand command-line however. When go to start/run and enter cmd, the DOS
window opens with the following prompt: "C:documents and settings". Is this
the correct prompt to begin with, or do I have to get to another prompt
before entering the command suggested, ie: del \\?\c:\recycler\nprotect\*.* .
And if so, how do I get there?
The other thing I tried is the procedure spelled out here:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nsw.nsf/0/9e5c7e39197032b26525720600407a99?OpenDocument
When I tried it, I got to this step: del *.* Then the files in nprotect
folder began scrolling down the screen with the message "the system could not
find the file specified" (that might not be word for word - i wrote it down,
but left it at home, and I'm at "work"). And, needless to say, the
recycler/nprotect folder is still there in all its 30 GB glory>
Any help will be appreciated...
