Delete items from Start Menu "Documents" folder

Apparently new in Vista, you can delete the shortcuts from the
Documents folder in the Start Menu by selecting the item and pressing
the Delete button. (Through XP, you had to right-click or use Ctrl-
F10 to get a menu.)

If you press Shift-Delete (use for permanently deleting an item
without going through the Recycle Bin), you get the following message:
"Are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?", followed by
the folder path of the UNDERLYING FILE, not the shortcut.

Is this stupid, or what? I've done a few tests, and answering "Yes"
does not delete the underlying file, just the shortcut from the
Documents folder in the Start Menu. (I hope!!)

Or am I missing something?

Are you talking about the RECENT Documents folder or your ACTUAL Documents
folder? Only the RECENT Documents folder contains shortcuts.

I am talking about the folder in the Start Menu entitled "Documents",
which contains SHORTCUTS of recently opened files, not the true
Documents folder. As I said, when you attempt to permanently delete
the SHORTCUTS via Shift-Delete, you get a message asking whether you
want to delete the TARGET FILE. If you answer Yes, it (fortunately)
deletes only the shortcut.

Stan,

Good idea. Where do I get started with this -- i.e., where is the
Contacts form? Thanks.

Report this to Microsoft via Contacts form if you want it fixed in future
Windows.
If you're determined to make Windows better, you may need to spend 10
minutes or jugglign thru the maze of CustomerService links but finally (at
least in my case) you cna always get to a point where you can email
Mircosoft, and do that in 2 categories/subjkects so they get it for sure.

I know it's a bit stupid design, but I already reported many things to
Microsoft and have no time to report this, please do that to help cvommunity

So what's the problem?

W

It happens to be entitled "Documents" on my Start Menu.

The problem is that the message is incorrect and misleading. It
informs you that you are about to delete the actual file, not the mere
shortcut in the Start Menu\"Documents" listing. It's slipshod
programming.

Then you have a very strange edition of Vista.

I think the OP is using the Classic start menu - 'Documents' unfolds to
show icons for the standard user folders and below that a list of recent places.

You stay on that two-faced COLA snake and MS saint that thinks everyone

Yes, that's right. Anytime we upgrade, I immediately switch to
classic mode, which I guess I just can't escape.

Would have helped if you'd said that.....

put the Err, badge on a chair. Err. Make sure the pointy part of the badge
is pointing up. Err.

Then drop your pants and sit on the badge. Err.

You've reported things to Microsoft? No wonder why I heard them laughing so
loud. HA HA HA HA.
