delete icons from desktop

I made a mistake and extracted a zip file to the desktop which resulted in
having maybe a thousand icons (files) on my desktop. I have a problem in
accessing the desktop and I tried to delete these files one by one but it
seems it will consume long time.

is there an easy way to delete these icons (files) on the desktop without
having my original icons, shortcuts and files deleted ??

Appreciate your help

Open My Computer. Go to the drop down Address Field and choose Desktop.
Edit/Select all. Ctrl and click on the icons you want to keep. Hit the
delete key.

I'm not certain that this will help, but it won't do any
harm. Try using System Restore, resetting to the day
before you opened the zip.

Good Luck,

Go to "my computer, local disk, documents and settings, username, desktop.
View as details and you can easily delete groups of icons.
