If an unread email has expired, it will auto delete from Inbox.
If the email has been read, it will appear in strike-thru text in the Inbox
after expiration date.

According to Help, the email can be deleted during AutoArchive (Delete
Expired Items...). However, when AutoArchive is run, the expired items move
to the Archive Folder and do not delete. In all help I can find, these files
should delete, not move to Archive folder. Is this working as designed?

Only when you have the option configured to delete expired item.
