Delay send rule -- too slow

I have set my Outlook rules to delay my outgoing mail from being sent
by 1 minute, but I have noticed that the delay time is not accurate.
Both at my current job and my previous job I noticed that a 1 minute
delay actually takes closer to 2.5 minutes to send, and this is a
little too long in my line of work. Is there any way to improve the
accuracy of the speed at which mail is sent under this rule? Outlook
allows only whole numbers in this rule, so you can't, for example, set
a 0.5 minute delay.

What type of email account do you have? Is this an actual rule to hold it 1
min then send immediately or send and receive set to check every 1 min?

I've never noticed the rule holding it an excessive amt of time but I also
never put a stop watch to it. It can take a few seconds once Outlook begins
sending the message for the message to leave the outbox and arrive in the
sent folder. When I test sends with a pop account that forwards to my
exchange server, the mail is delivered back to my mailbox within seconds of
the message hitting the sent folder.

updating. Don't go by when it leaves the outbox but when the message system
gets it because after the message system gets it, outlook is notified and
then removes it from the outbox. If it is so critical that it must go
quickly, use online mode and send it immediately.

The timing is important. Sending immediately is not an option for
reasons that I won't state here. In short, I need a brief delay to
cover myself, but not so long a delay as to appear inattentive.

Cached mode is the new default account type in outlook - it stores a cache
of your mailbox locally in an *.ost and syncs it rather than a direct, live
connection to the exchange mailbox.
