delay in typing words before it appears on screen

I type a word in Outlook and there is a delay before it appears on the
screen, and if I go fast it just skips letters. Kind of like it is
hiccupping or something. Maddening. It does this sometimes in Word also.
Can someone help?

if you use Word as Editor, please check the options from word.

That's not an Outlook problem. Perhaps you have a keyboard issue.
