defs 5739 is available

I like that explanation as well--it may be an issue with
the load-distribution/caching system between us and the
servers, or a cache anywhere along the path.

Well, I don't "like" it but I think it is correct. I
waited 5 hours and tried a manual update again - this
time it "stuck."

Back-end server synch problem; and/or Internt
infrastructure caching (but definatley NOT a local PC
cache issue).

After waiting 5 hours I tried another "check for updates"
manual update. This time it "stuck."

It appears this is an architecture/infrastructure issue.
the back end servers aren't synching up for several hours
after an update is posted, or there is a cacing issue on
the Internt (but not a local PC cache issue).

I manually went from 615/5737 to 5739 at 05:10 EDT without a problem.
It's been clear for a while per postings here that MAS should not be
autoupdated IMHO, but rather should be manually updated 6 hours or more
after the first poster here says a new signature is available.
I have that same issue. i did keep emptying the temp folder and it
still had the issue. I just in the end went to the temp folder for
where the files were downloaded and opened them up with winrar
extracted them and put them into my folder that stopped the recuring
updating in the end.

Probably on vacation............. :')

Really good software quality for a security program.
MS must invent some sort of quality insurance for this
to avoid personal on vacation.

If you succeed, I promise not to tell who did it.

It is possible that the author of that article is on vacation.

Well then he finds someone else to keep this records uptodate.

Security products must have high standards for everything and
it´s basic to directly publish latest signature description including
all "stamps" / fingerprints. "Best practise".

Every company follows this, also for beta versions but not MS ;)

IMHO again, nothing personal against you or Steve !

I am sure that Steve can find a better way doing this.
