defs 5739 is available

Are you sure? Just tried to get them, said it downloaded
5739 and installed it, then checked "Help/About" and got
this (which makes it look like I really hdo have 5739):

Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.615
This version expires on: 12/31/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5739 (7/28/2005 5:15:07 PM)

Ran manual update again, and it said I still have 5737
and it downloaded 5739 again.

Repeat process. Over and over. (Yes, I emptied the Temp
Internet Cache in there around iteration 3 or 4 - same
results).

Kerry,

This is a "me too" with amplifying data.;-)

When I was unable to update, I attempted to update by downloading
the files directly by these links:
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

MSAS was shut down for each attempt.

Strangely enough, in the diagnostic log sometimes I would see
"Definitions Increment Version: 92/90" and other times I would see
"Definitions Increment Version: 90/92".

This would seem to be in agreement with Robin's explanation wrt
multiple servers being updated at different times.

Finally, after several attempts, I have:
Definitions Increment Version: 92/92
Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1334196
Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2676554
Definitions DeterminationData: 542456

I don't see it as a local or isp cache problem, but more likely a
slow replication situation, or a procedural problem. I don't recall
if Robin stated directly, or only implied, that DeterminationData
comes from Seattle while ThreatData and ScanData come from San Jose.
If none of the 3 updated files was made available until the
replication process was complete and verified it would save many
people much frustration, to say nothing about newsgroup disk space.

There's got to be a better way.

I'm having the same problem and my files are NOT the same
sizes
as Bob's, but are definitely new.

P

As a follow-up to my previous. After downloading the 3 files
Bob listed all is now fine. Apparently some of the servers
are only
partially updated and are serving up old and new files.

If you succeed, I promise not to tell who did it.

It is possible that the author of that article is on vacation.

I like that explanation as well--it may be an issue with the
load-distribution/caching system between us and the servers, or a cache
anywhere along the path.

I have that same issue. i did keep emptying the temp folder and it still had
the issue. I just in the end went to the temp folder for where the files
were downloaded and opened them up with winrar extracted them and put them
into my folder that stopped the recuring updating in the end.

This was the first time I did *not* have immediate success with a
manual update. If raising holy hell in the newsgroups is what it
will take to get this problem resolved, please consider holy hell
raised. ;-)

Also to add all the right files are downloading just not updating

Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.615
This version expires on: 31/12/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5739 (29/07/2005 2:27:29 AM)

As i said earlier i extracted the files downloaded in the cache and put them
into the antispyware folder and then it stopped trying to update from 5737
to 5739.

That's too weird for words. It would seem to imply a problem in
extracting the files.
Would you please verify this data from the diagnostic log:
Definitions Increment Version: 92/92
Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1334196
Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2676554

There was definitely a specific issue with builds .613 and .614.

However, I've seen definition "sticking" at intervals throughout the beta,
both firsthand and through the groups.

I was definitely mistaken when I thought there was nothing new wrong with
..613 and .614.

I'm still looking at .615--i.e. I'm unconvinced as yet that anything new is
happening that can be "fixed."
