Defragmenter

When I finished defraging my C Drive, I received a message saying “Some files
on this volume could not be defragmented. Please check the defragmentation
report for the list of these files.â€
I also noticed a red line (Fragmented File) in the Defragmenter. In the
Defragmentation Report under File fragmentation, Total excess fragments
equaled 4. My question is this: Is there a way to find out what file is
fragmented, and unfragment it, or if necessary, get rid of it? Thank you.

Unless the file not defragmented is listed I would ignore the message.

Invariably the MFT (Master File Table) is in 2 fragments ( I have seen
3). I am not sure about this but another example may be the pagefile.
The Disk Defragmenter Report says how many fragments there are for the
Master File Table and the Pagefile. My pagefile is contiguous so it is
recorded as a single fragment but many pagefiles are not contiguous.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I have the same problem. I really cannot ignore the message bc the issue
with my HD remains: I cannot defrag it. How can this be fixed?

Kindly,
Mike

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy.
