Defragmenter

I'm trying to allow my "Power Users" to be able to
defragment their own computers. I don't want to add them
to the Administrator group, but I do want them to be able
to run a defrag. It was suggested to me to change
the "Perform Volume Maintenance Tasks" found in
gpedit.msc. I've tried adding the Power User group and
I've tried adding individual domain users to this
function. But, they still receive a message stating that
they must have Administrator privileges to defrag the
volume.

Help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Defrag requires admin rights. You might want to try the following article.

XP

Maybe you can create script or scheduled task that would work just as well.

You mentioned that defrag requires admin rights and that I
might want to try creating a script or scheduled task. I'd
really prefer not to go this route, but even if I did,
wouldn't it still want some user interaction before
actually starting the defrag? For instance, if a Power
User was on the computer and the scheduled task or script
began to run, wouldn't it ask the Power User for some type
of Administrator level password? If so, this defeats my
purpose. Long story short, I'm trying to grant Power Users
permission to defrag the volume. I don't want them to be
Administrators, but I do want them to have permission to
run a defrag on their own machine. I know Microsoft
doesn't support this, but I also know that there has to be
a file or registry key somewhere that relates to this
permission and I'm just hoping to find it. :)

Any help or advice you can give would be greatly
appreciated. I can be reached at this address.

Thank you,

Carrie
