Defraging Free Space

Why doesn't defrag remove the free space between the contiguous files, the
way it used to in earlier OS's All those tiny free spaces between the
defraged contiguous files just contribute to more/faster fragmentation. I've
not been able to find anywhere in the defrag configuration to make that
happen. Is there any way to get that done?

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy.

Hope this helps.

It would add to the time of defragging if it moved contiguous files from one
location on the drive to another location.

But if you wish to move all of the files to one end of the drive to the
other, give Defraggler a try.

I've tried it and it does a great job but does take longer than the built-in
XP defragger.

Not nessarley a good idea to remove those spaces anyway Rob they are there
for a reason.
They represent the ammount of extra memory the programs use once they start.

Removeing them will slow the start up time for those programs,, and the next
time you start and shut them down,, the "evil little spaces" will return to
your defrag analyses to annoy you anyway.
