DEFRAG

after running windows 2000 defrag my system still reports quite heavily
fragmented drive in actual fact theres probably no difference after the
defrag

3 disk raid 5 array

would be because of the above hardware setup?

a hit with the clue stick would do me the world of good!!

I have a few suggestions. Sometimes you will need to run
defrag several times. Also don't forget that the files
and services that are in use will not be defragged. Boot
up in safe mode and try that. And last but not least, if
possible, take your entire drive and move all the
contents to another partition or hard drive and then
back, this will defrag the files automatically.

but what would really like to know is would windows diskmanament report
fragmentation differently because of a hardware raid set up ie raid 5 array

i have ran defrag several times and it reports fragrmentation at the same
amount something like 37 pecernt this surely is no good for perfomance.

any expansion on this would be greatfully appreciated.

No, defragmenter does not know anything about raid 5 hardware. We see it as
one large disk. When you partition that disk, we see the partitions.
