I'm glad I found this site, I have enjoyed reading the expert advice given
out to lost souls like myself.
My pc has just passed the warranty stage and I'm starting to have quirqy
problems.
1) When I'm working on pc, the cpu makes a click on and click off noise and
all of a sudden everything locks up and then I have to reboot. What does this
mean? Hard-drive going out? Any way to test it for life?
2) I tried to defrag yesterday and at 3%, the black screen changed to blue
with this message 'a prob has been detected and windows has been shut down to
prevent damage to your computer. It ends with If prob continues, disable or
remove newly installed items. Disable BIOS memory options such as
caching/shadowing.' Final line reads 'Dump of physical memory complete.' What
is all that trying to say?
3) I'm a student and need to access WebCT for emails, assignments, etc. and
up until two weeks ago I could view messages, but for some unknown reason...I
get all the way to actually being able to see the subject and when I select
'view thread' I get the yellow 'yield sign' and at the bottom it reads 'Error
on page.' I did contact the library and they asked me to undo the 'block
popups' from IE because each step into WEbCT is viewed as a 'popup' and
that's been turned off and still no success. How can I possibly check all the
buttons, etc. to set the IE settings correctly?
4) Finally, when I got Roadrunner Service, my pc could stay on for days and
now my pc wants to take breaks. My pc's settings are set to 'not hibernate',
but after I step away for a couple of hours...I get a locked screen and I
have to reboot. I have 'never' for allow how much time before going into
standby. Any other settings/radio buttons to check or uncheck?
I realize this is a really long wish list, but I'm also very patient. If
it's easier to respond to a couple now and the rest later, I'll appreciate it
all the same.
Thank you.
p.s. I just selected 'About display names, below, and I got that yellow
yield's Error on Page:}
