Defrag keeps hanging

Hi there,
I am sorting out a computer for a friend, they had alot of adware on it and
I have only just done removing it so I don't know if that might have coursed
this problem in some way.

Anyway, the problem is that when I load defrag up it takes about a min to
load, then about another min before i can click anything, and from then after
it keeps hanging every 15 secs maybe.

Anyone any ideas please?

Thanks

You will have better luck running a defrag in Safe Mode to do so restart the
computer while starting the computer tap f8 over and over until you get to
the selective startup screen(note: if you see the windows xp loading screen
its too late you will have to restart and try again). At the selective
startup screen choose safe mode. Boot into safe mode and start the defrag
process. Also if your disk is full then this will take ages!

Spyware may have caused some windows corruptions and that may be why it
takes so long to load up. You may need to run a repair install of windows.
To do so follow this link...

Good luck,

FYI: Kemco mentioned that if the disk is full it'll take ages. You need 15%
of free disk space for the defrag to run. I think the defrag utility will let
you know there is not enough disk space, although its been awhile. I would
highly recommend Raxco's Perfectdisk defrag as it will do standard defrag,
smartplace defrag and offline defrag which includes files that cannot be
defraged otherwise (pagefile.sys, etc.)
