Definitions haven't been updated in xx days

I have now tried to install Windows Defender (beta 2) on 5 separate computers
in 3 separate locations, and I get an error on 4 of the 5 when trying to
update the definitions--it says none found and they are at least 26-27 days
old. One of the 5 systems also gets a class not registered error message. Are
there any newer definitions for Beta 2 yet? Any word on why the first 4
machines keep showing the yellow (?) in the Defender icon? I only got a green
checkmark on the 5th machine I tested with.

Thank you! I will take a look because that looks like an exact match to the
symptoms I described.

I've now seen one post in relation to the "class not registered" issue,
suggesting that bringing the machine up to date with all critical security
updates may eliminate that one.

That KB article did not fix the problem.

It turns out that I forgot about our Windows Software Update Services (WSUS)
server. I updated that to download updates for Windows Defender, and then as
soon as the workstations got the updates from WSUS, the error message went
away and new definitions began arriving to them. I did not realize Microsoft
integrated this so quickly. It would be nice if the update worked directly,
in addition to the WSUS push, though.

Glad you got it fixed.
