Definitions update

I installed "Windows Defender (Beta 2) three days ago. Immedistely after the
installation the "Fortress" shield with "!" appeared with the text "Windows
Defender definitions haven't been updated in 38 days". I clicked on "Checked
for Updated", the process went on and a new trtiangle shield appeared on the
task bar infoming that updates were waiting to be installed. The installation
finished successfully. After this the two shields continued to appear all the
time. I installed the updates again and again, restarted the computer several
times but the shields never disappeared - the Defeneder is constantly asking
for update. Please help!

Hello Engel,

I have a similar problem and carried out the action suggested in the KB
article but I still get the error message and have a 39 day update lag. the
error message i get is :

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x80244022

Would be grateful for any advice from anyone.

Otherwise I will go back to Anitspyware (Beta 1)

Problem solved:
I should have read further down the group postings (naughty me) as this
problem seems to fairly widespread. The Windows Update (WU) also seems to be
intergrated with this problem. So I tried the Winodws Update from an IE and
I got a message that I needed to install a "new version" of updater. I
thought I had the latest? Anyway I did this restarted Windows and the
Windows Update refused to work. I closd the IE window and opened again and
tried the WU again and bingo it worked and there appeared the "update to
Windws Defender definitions". I installed this and Windows Defender is now
operating with the updated defintions and currently scanning my PC as I type.

Good luck to everyone else expeirencing this problem
