Defender virus? porgam to end task?

This is happened over the last several weeks, at least 3 people, have been
infected with the fake window defender virus.

The first one I looked at, and searched for I found a microsoft program
similar to task manager that allowed me to go in and stop a program, then I
could scan easily.
I though I downloaded it, but can't find it and can't seeem to find it in a
search. I wasn't on my computer so didn't bookmark it. It was a fairly simple
program.

Anyone heard of it or know the link on ms site I can download the program.
It worked at least it seemed better than task manager, which can't start
while this virus is active. ( the last two I did in safe mode, and I think I
got of it after scanning with a malware program.), just this program made it
easier.
thanks Bruce

Hello Ǝиçεl:

In my beliefs, and those of many others, it's best to seek this type
of download from a source much closer to the author/distributor.

I wholeheartedly agree with your choice of Mark Russinovich's Process
Explorer. In this case, the Microsoft download will offer a version
that's been revised two times (v11.33) and is much safer.

Again. Your choice of Process Explorer for Bruce is without equal.

Search on sysinternals. I suspect this thread is about one of their
utilites--they are now distributed by Microsoft.
