Defender Says I haven't scanned ... but I run one every night!!

Good evening,

This is a follow-up to a question I asked June 7 but apparently the
responder thought I was asking about definitions updates and he misunderstood
my question.

Here is the question again:

The last several days when I turn on my computer the Windows Defender Icon
in my
Task Bar is greyed out with an Orange circle on top of it with a Black
Explamation Mark in the middle.

When I open the program it says I haven't scheduled a scan in 3 days
and sometimes more.

The problem is I have been running scheduled quick scans at 8 p.m. for about
six weeks now.

Any ideas how to correct this Defender mixup?

Thanks and regards,

Mine does the same thing, but I think it is because we run a quick scan every
day at a specified time. I ran a full scan and mine quit, but it may start up
atain after so many days. Try running a full scan and see if it does it the
next time you boot up.

Hi MaDonna,

Thanks for responding. Glad to hear someone else is seeing the same thing.
What puzzles me is why it just started this past week or so when it has never
appeared in the previous six weeks while I was also running daily scheduled
scans.

When I run a full scan like you suggested it does lay dormant until about
three days and then it starts up with the warning about not running a scan.

Thanks and regards,

Just a remote chance, but here goes...Do you use the latest ver of CCleaner
and have WD checked in the apps? I had a similar problem and unchecked
WD..prob cleared up.

Hi Chuck,

Yes, I have the latest Crap Cleaner version and Windows Defender was
'checked'.

It is now 'unchecked' and I will wait and see what happens.

Come to think about it, this "not scanning notification" problem started
occuring right around the time I installed the newest CC version a few weeks
back.

Now, I will wait and see.

Thanks for the tip!

Have a great weekend!

I had the little exclamation point this morning again, and I also have the
latest CCleaner, so I unchecked WD and will see if it happens anymore. And,
too, it was about the same time the new version of CC came out.
Thanks.....Hope this works.

You are both very welcome. Not often I am able to help like this. My
similar issue began with the latest ver of CCleaner also. Since unchecking
one week ago, I have not see a recurrence.

I've been monitoring this thread hoping it would provide a concrete answer,
but no luck yet. I have had the same problem and do not have CC installed.
I get the same error every weekend whether I run a full system scan or a
quick scan. Never had this problem with MSAS.

Hi joesixpack,

Sorry to hear you are facing the same problem we all were having prior to
Chuck's fix.

As I said before my problem started with the recent update to CC. Once I
followed Chuck's suggestion I have not seen the "you haven't scanned in three
days" message again.

You might want to repost and start a new thread. Include in the new post
that you are having this "you haven't scanned in three days" message and you
don't have CC installed on your computer as it seems was the problem for
those answering this thread.

Good luck!

Hi joesixpack

Search this forum group for "WD won't scan automatically" and follow the
instructions in that thread to set up a windows scheduled task (as the WD
scheduler is known to be buggy). Don't forget to unhide the windows
scheduled task etc as per instructions and set your "run as" user and
password.

Cheers
Jangles
