Defender not Restarting

windows defender has found downloader.ay - severe threat. I click to remove
and defender replies completed but must restart I click ok and nothing
happens, computer freezes and i have to power off. when we start up again
defender goes through same process. I did try waiting to see of computer
would shut down but two hours later I did ctrl/alt/delete - apu usage was
100% and it took another 1/2 hour for shut down to complete...when I turned
puter back on started with same message from defender. I Can use puter if
click ignore but would like to remove the downloader.av...

Have you tried the cleaning running in safe mºde?
In safe mode, some of the protective services which these programs use to
ensure that they aren't removed, are not running, so they are easier to
remºve.
