Defender Beta was installed by ASUS on new VISTA PC bought 07/05/0

Believe it or not. I found the description of the problem on Microsoft KB. I
found it on KB930522. I have called ASUS...They said Best Buy must have done
it. However, Best Buy said that their records indicate they did not touch
this notebook before we purchased it. This is a $1000 machine. I keep getting
that error code associated with the Windows Defender Beta version expiration
.....the error that says "application failed 0x800106ba" and all the other
blah blah blah that goes with it saying it is not able to start....etc.
Anyway..i am not able to access anything to do with Defender anywhere in the
pc without getting this very same message. I tried to download a newer
version. It wouldn't let me because it says that Defender is already in
Vista. As u can probably imagine...I'm getting pretty steamed and very
frustrated. What can u recommend that I do to get rid of it and get Defender
to work on this brand new 1000 Vista notebook? Please let me know asap.

Hello Dena,

1.- What is the antivirus/security suite installed,

2.- and what other security software are you running, if any?

Hi Dena,

Also, please confirm your system date and time are correct. Having it set
incorrectly can cause this type of behavior.

Is your clock and Time Zone also the Date set properly?

Either your clock is wrong or your PC is set to the wrong time zone.

The error message info on MS KB 930522 states taht this error message is
caused by the Windows Defender Beta being expired. Once again....the system
was purchased on 07/05/09. and the OS is Vista. The Defender beta version is
not supported in Vista. FYI...the Security service I loaded was Mcafee
Security Suite. It is supplied gratis by ATT Yahoo DSL. Also, the time and
date are set correctly.

OK maybe there is a conflict between Defender and Mcafee. However, why is it
that I have 2 other laptops in this same home running with Vista OS and with
Mcafee and have defender loaded and I have never run into this particular
error message or any error message related to Defender Period before. Again,
I want to know how to get the BETA version out of my laptop. I will take it
from there. Just HOW DO I GET RID OF THE BETA VERSION so I can get rid of the
ERROR MESSAGE? Please let me know how to do that.
