Defender beta 2 on foreign W2K doesn't initialize, service starts, updates don't install

Hi,

I have raised this before but I didn't see any answer.
We run W2K server French edition.
I recently downloaded Defender Beta 2 and it installed.
Yet when it attempted to start it produced the "failed to initialize
0x80010534" error.
The service appears to be running (but there is no way to control the
program).
Updates to the definition files fail to install (no given reason).

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest (April's?) distribution, to
no avail.
It runs without a problem on a French Windows XP Pro SP2.

Any information on how to make it work in this environment?

Thanks
MF

I've seen the same hazzle since weeks on german Win2k SP4 too.

They already claimed to have this repaired (AFAIK it's a simple i18n
problem with localized account names), but, after downloading the beta2
I had to notice that they apparently fixed the installer's localization only,
not the program itself.

The former AntiSpyware beta phase is running out but the peacock still
covers his head in the dust.
