Windows Defender Final Version Install Fails - BETA 2 Removal Fail

Windows Defender Final Installation Fails with the message "The feature you
are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

The "network resource" that the Windows Defender Final installation is
looking for appears to be the the Beta 2 WindowsDefender.msi which the Beta 2
file install process apparently stored in the Local Settings\temp directory,
not a very smart place since temp is by Microsoft definition a directory for
TEMPORARY files.

Trying to unintall the Beta 2 Windows Defender fails for the same reason.

It's clear from this form that many others are having the same problem. I've
tried all the options mentioned in this forum, and none of them work either.
I notice that Microsoft input into this forum is notably absent.

There is no visible recognition of this problem on the Microsoft website,
much less a solution.

So the situation is that one of the key products in Microsoft's Security
initiative, can't even install itself over the previous version even though
it's running on an operating designed, developed and supposedly suppored by
Microsoft.

DOESN'T ANYONE CARE ABOUT DOING A GOOD JOB ANYMORE AT MICROSOFT?

I had the same problem and after trying all the suggestions on this forum
that didn't work I went on the internet and found the old installation files
at http://mymirrors.homelinux.org/freeware/WindowsDefender/. ; I copied the
Beta2 .msi file to the location the new Windows Defender install was looking
for (had to also rename it slightly to match what it was looking for) and
then the install could FINALLY complete.

I know getting files off the internet from an unknown source is risky but
since Microsoft is not offering these old files that I could find, I felt I
had to use this file to allow the new Defender to uninstall the old. The new
install file came from Microsoft.

Thanks Scott, that worked for me.

Download and save the Beta-2 .msi and rename it windowsdefender[1].msi and
browse for it when prompted.

What a stupid place to save it!

Clear 'temporary internet files' and it is gone

Like writing a vital phone number on a steamed window.
