Hi! I "inherited" a computer at work when its only previous user passed away
and I replaced her. I changed the user name to mine and mine is the only
name that appears in the user accounts section of the control panel and on
the logon screen. However, when the computer goes on screen saver it is set
up so that it must ask for my password to get on the computer again. When
that happens the name of the deceased person appears. The name of the person
the computer has been registered to has been changed to mine. But I cannot
change the name on the logon screen after a screen saver pause. Is there any
way I can change that name?

Where did you change the name of the person you replaced? Was it under User
Accounts of the Control Panel? Or, did you go into Computer Management under
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management?

I believe this change would need to be made under Computer Management which
would control all aspects of the account information.

John, Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I did make the change in hte
User Accounts part of the Control Panel. I went into the admisnitrative
tools but I don't know where or how to do it there. Do you know? Please
advise. THANKS!!!

Once you have Computer Management open, click on the plus sign next to "Local
Users and Groups".

Select Users in the tree from Local Users and Groups.
Look in the right side of the window for users on the local machine.

Do a single click on the name that you want to change. Look at the
information listed as it should show "Name" and "Full Name". It might have
been the full name that you changed previously. If "Name" (first column)
still shows the wrong name, do a right click on the name and select "Rename".
After entering the correct name, press ENTER.

If the Full Name is also showing the wrong name, double click on the name to
change the full name. Make the necessary changes and click OK.

After these steps, hopefully the screen saver will show the correct name.

John, that is exactly the problem. When I open Computer Management I do not
get Local Users and Groups. I get System Tools, Storage and Services and
Applications and when I open these there is just nothing there that leads me
to users.

Hi! I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you yesterday. I have Windows XP Home
Edition. IS that the problem?

Yes, that would be causing the problem. Windows Home Edition does not have
advanced user settings like Windows XP Pro. I am not sure that the name can
be changed in Home. You might need to simply create a new account and move
files to the new account.

John

Yes, that is what I thought. Thank you so much for your help!! I really
appreciate it. I shall try to create the new account and move the files and
see if that helps. Thanks again!!! Take care and God Bless!
