Default settings

I opened a Word doc that was created in France. Although it is in English,
Word asked me if I wanted to install some type of check tool for French. I
thought I clicked NO.

Now, my margin settings are in millimeters (or centimeters).

Can you please tell me how to restore to U.S. default (inches)?

Also, is there a way to tell Word to stop trying to install support for
another language everytime I receive a doc that was not created by a U.S.
version of Word?
