Default printer setting changes on reboot.

I have an HP computer with Windows XP. I have a Brother multifunction I
usually use and an HP printer I only use monthly. The printer default always
goes back to the HP printer when I reboot even with the HP printer
disconnected. Is there a way, short of removing the HP software to keep this
from happening?
 
Probably not, HP seems to have decided that their printer MUST be the
default and it's encoded in the drivers.
