Default Printer Problems with Roaming Profiles

We currently have a Win2K domain w/AD setup where our users log onto one of
two load balanced Citrix servers. Our process (a bit excessive, but it
works) for creating user ids is:

1) set up user account in AD

2) Create and set up Home directory on a file server. It is assigned to W:
via logon scripts

3) Set up their Exchange 5.5 mailbox

4) log the user onto CITRIX 1 and configure the desktop and assign their
default printer

5) log the user onto CITRIX 2 and log off. Probably unnecessary, but it
doesn't add much to the process and creates a profile directory (I've tried
it without this step and still have the same problem).

6) from the User Profiles tab in the properties of My Computer (on CITRIX 1)
copy the profile to CITRIX2 and the user's Roaming Profiles directory (on a
file server)

7) Update AD account to add the Roaming Profile location to the "Terminal
Server Profile" tab.

7) log the user onto CITRIX 1 and Citrix 2

8) verify that the profile on CITRIX1 and CITRIX2 are now Roaming instead of
Local.

My problem is that this works just fine for about 90%+ of the users I
create. However, occasionally (can't identify any common thread), a problem
crops up. If the user logs onto CITRIX 1, the default printer is fine. If I
then log them onto CITRIX 2 and look at the Printers, no printer is assigned
as a default. When I try to set one, it sometime takes immediately and
sometimes I have to try a couple of times, closing the Printers window each
time. Now, if I log them onto CITRIX 1, the default printer is messed up,
defaulting to the original printer when the profile was created.

If I change each profile to "Local" and set the default printer, it's just
fine. Has anyone seen this or have a clue as to why only certain users have
this problem with Roaming Profiles?

Since the metaframe 1.8 days, Citrix was pushing the con2print (or was it
con2prt?) utility to assign printers. I would suggest writing a script that
maps default printers based on either OU (as a GPO) or group using WSH.

Worth a look. Thanks. I assume it runs under W2K and XP? If so, it may be
useful in setting up new workstations. Some of our users have local apps (as
well as Citrix published apps) on their desktops. Depending on their area,
they want different default printers.
