Redirection of content

HI

I have a question concerning redirection af content via GP.

We use romaing profiles, for workstaion login. Each user has a directory on
a share, where the roaming profile resides.

At the same time we use citrix and the citrix profile is residing in the
same directory as the roaming profile.

So a user has a personal directory where he or she can put there files ext.
and this directory also contains to profiles.

We have a GP linked to the OU containing our citrix servers, we would like
to use this policy to redirect the desktop for the user citrix profile to
the roaming profile. As it is now, users have two desktops, one in citrix
and one local (roaming). This is wery confusing and we would lige to trim
that down to one desktop.

Now to the question:

The user directories are locatet on different volumes, therefore I need to
use some kind of variable in the UNC, in the actual policy. I have tried
using som environment variables, but the policy dosent seem to work. Perhabs
it is because these variables are set on the actual citrix server, not on
the domain controller.

Thx

Well, any policy items for a user need to be set for that user (not on the
server where the policy resides) -- the processes running for this are
running on behalf of the user.

But also be aware of the problem with EARLY use of environment
variables -- some of the me come from the registry and possibly the
policy and they may not yet be set when you are testing them.

%username% is dependable all of the time (for a user) but others
come in a bit later.

The redirection policy is a user policy, so wont it affect all users who log
on to any server in the ou, the policy is linked to?

But my problem with the variables I have been using so far is that they are
only set on the citrix server not on the domain controller, and I think they
are set after the policy.

It should -- if it is has correct permisssions, is being applied, and is
not being overridden by a later policy.
But my problem with the variables I have been using so far is that they are
only set on the citrix server not on the domain controller, and I think they
are set after the policy.

Server variables will have no usefullness for processes running on
the client (e.g., user GPO application) AND it is quite possible that
client side variables are not yet set.

What specifically are you really trying to accomplish? (Rather than
how your are doing it.)

Our users have two profiles.

A roaming profile for their workstation login. And one citrix profile. They
have a desktop in both profiles and that confuses some users, who cant
distinguish between their roaming desktop and their citrix desktop.

We would like to redirect the content of their citrix desktop to the roaming
desktop, so they onle see one desktop.

The citrix servers all reside in the same ou and we have a policy linked to
that ou.

The profiles resides on different file shares in user containers. So a user
has a container with both the roaming and the citrix profile. The profiles
are all locatet in different volumes, so the unc, we need to set in the
policy, is not the same for all users.

Thx

I cannot answer direclty for Citrix but this is quite doable for
Terminal Services so it likely also possible for Citrix (which
usually has as many features or more, and as good control or
better.)

In AD Users and Computers properties for a User under their
Terminal Server settings you can see their TS profile which
defaults to their normal profile if not configured.
