default printer not holding...

One of our company's XP Pro SP2 machines has a strange ongong issue...

If the user changes his default printer from the "printers and faxes" app,
then goes into Word or Excel etc... and attempts to print the document. When
he does this, the original default
printer is shown as the printer to print to - NOT the one he just changed
it to (even though that new printer is shows wiutht he checkmark beside it!)
Then, the user has to select the printer he actually wants to print to from
the
list, and he has to then also change all the print settings as it does not
bring
over the defaults set up for that printer i.e. paper size, orientation etc..
etc... This is a real pain!

Has anyone seen this issue before and if so, any ideas on a fix?

Before you change the default printer, make sure all applications are
closed. Then change the default printer. After you have set the
default printer, launch the application and it should reflect the
correct printer.
