I have two workstations both with Outlook 2003 installed.
On one of them when I do GO|News I get the Outlook NewS
Reader View of OE, the other gives me the standard
Outlook Express View.
I like the Outlook Reader View and setup much better, How
do I get it to my workstation defaulted to the view I
prefer.
Thanks,
Mike
I don't really understand your distinction: There are only four differences
between the "Outlook" view of the Newsreader and the Outlook Express view:
1) The top of the Folder list says "Outlook Newsreader" in the Outlook view
2) The Title says "Outlook Newsreader" in the Outlook view.
3) The right pane says "Outlook Newsreader" when the top of the Folder list
is selected in the "Outlook" view.
4) There is no entry for "Contacts" in the right pane when the top of the
Folder list is selected in the "Outlook" view.
In fact, if "Outlook" is not set as your default "newsreader", the above
distinctions won't be displayed when you use the "View|Goto|News" command
from Outlook's Main Menu. Instead, the newsreader will look exactly like
Outlook Express in every detail.
Other than these four very minor details, the "Outlook" view and the view
normally displayed by Outlook Express are exactly the same. Also, the
method of account setup and option settings are exactly the same in both,
since the same program is being set up in both instances. The Main Menu is
exactly the same in both, since it is the Main Menu of the same program. The
Tool Bar is exactly the same, since it is the Tool Bar of the same program.
And everything else is exactly the same. The "Outlook newsreader" won't do
anything Outlook Express won't do and has no options Outlook Express does
not have.
The fact is, Outlook has NO newsreader built into its structure. Outlook
uses whatever newsreader is set as the default Windows newsreader. In your
case, it uses Outlook Express with a few minor cosmetic details changed.
Office 2003 makes no such very minor distinctions, and the view displayed is
the "Outlook Express" view, even when "Outlook" is selected as the "default
newsreader".
