each time I want to open a document in Mac Word 2004 I need to click on the
date order to sort in the most recent docs. the defualt is oldest docs

The window you are seeing when handling files in Mac Word 2004 is a
Macintosh Finder window generated by the operating system. Word has little
control over it (even though it looks like it's "part" of Word, it isn't...)

If you tell me HOW you are opening the documents, I can try to help further.

Cheers

in Mac Office whenever I want to open a new document, or attach a document,
the finder window always lists documents in order of the oldest documents
first. it is annoying to hav to reverse the date order every time to find the
most recent documents I am working on. it does not store this preference for
next time. so, multiple attachments etc require repetetive clicks to change
the order.

I wonder if there is a way to make it list most recent documents by default.
I have no problem searching through Macintosh HD, as the default order
remains the same from last time.

many thanks for your help

Not that *I* know of. At least, not in OS 10.3.9. If you find it, please
tell me :)
