Default file extractor for WinXP SP-!

Is it possible to extract a *.zip file "Without a zip utility installed" in
WinXP"? My son purchased Winzip for me and it has been installed. My problem
is when I send a ZIP file to a friend, they click on the zip file, and it
ask's what they want to open the file with, and I do not know what it should
be. Do they have to have a zip utility installed so they can open these type
files? Not sure where I would look for this info, new to the computer, but
learning. Thank you.

To answer your question, WinXP has it's own Extracting Utility. You do
not need a third party program such as WinZip
to extract a zip file.

They should save the attachment, then open an Explorer window and
they will find the ZIP file looks like a folder.

It's also possible for you to use Winzip to create a self-
extracting ZIP file, with a .exe extension, and mail that. But I
don't recommend it because you're training your friend to execute
programs that are mailed to him/her, and that's very risky
behavior.
