deceptive software

I seem to have deceptive software or something happening.
My virus checker caught a malicious script and I disabled
it but now the system is very slow and there are a lot of
programs downloaded on the puter. When i try to uninstall
I have to go to the website and it seems like they just
keep adding more programs. How do I remidy this? I am
using Explorer 6.0 and Win ME

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
