Debating upgrading from Home Premium to Ultimate is it Laggy?

B

Brad

I could use a second opinion. I've got a HP DV9000 laptop. It runs
really well with Home premium on it, but I am considering upgrading to
Ultimate so I can use the Remote Desktop and the Backup features.

What I am concerned about is if Ultimate will slow down my system or
cause me any other problems?

I know there's a hack available to make Remote Desktop work on home
premium and other backup products too. But it seems like the upgrade
would make more sense.

What say you?

Upgrading to Vista Ultimate is an easy procedure
and it will not slow down your computer. Both
Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate perform
equally well.

Save your money. If you got money to waste on Ultimate, send it to the
needy instead.

There is no performance difference to speak of between versions of Vista.
All other things being equal (that is, using or not using Aero on all
systems being compared, or running the same load on all systems, and so on)
there is no speed penalty in running a more "advanced" version compared to a
less "advanced" version.

If those are the only reasons you want Ultimate, I would suggest you
buy third-party software that provides those capabilities, rather than
upgrade. You'd probably save some money, and at least, with regard to
backup, you could get a better solution, like Acronis True Image.

No, it won't slow down your system, and there's no reason to expect
any problems. The reason not to do it is only that it may make
economic sense to use alternatives.

I don't think so.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Ken, I appreciate saving a few bucks and do like Acronis a lot! That
does make the most sense.

But.... I just found out about the "Ultimate Extras" being released.
Am I missing out on anything there in your opinion?

Thanks again :)

Vista extras aren't really worth the extra cash.

Ultimate Extras have been promised for a while, but nothing has come
out. Perhaps something will someday, but personally I wouldn't upgrade
to Vista just for the possibility of some "extra" that you may or may
not want. Why not wait to see if an extra arrives that you yearn for
before shelling out cash for Ultimate?
