I am interested in upgrading from vista home premium to ultimate, using the
vista ultimate upgrade retail disk. Will I have to re-install office pro
2007 and my other software? Will I have to re-program media center TV
shows? Can I just use my Ultimate key and install only the ultimate
components that I want to use, like ISO image creation and hold'em?

You can upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate. Your files and settings and
applications will be preserved. Just make sure you choose the upgrade option
during setup.

You shouldn't have to reinstall your software, as long as the upgrade
installs properly, have a backup just in case.
You cannot pick and choose what to install, you have to install the Ultimate
OS.

OK. Thanks.

I am going to give it a go!

Crap!
After two attempts to upgrade to Ultimate, I must report that both failed
and automatically rolled back to Home Premium. Each attempt took 2+ hoursw,
both got to "Completing Upgrade", then "Windows could not configure one or
more system components. To install Windows restart the computer then restart
the installation" As soon as I click "OK" it rolls back.
My computer is an HP m9000t that is 2 months old, came with quad core 6600,
2 GB of memory, 500GB HD, and with the 8600GT video card with 512 MB. I
added a 4GB readyboost and 2 GB of additional memory. I know that the 32-bit
Vista supports only 3GB of memory. Should I remove the readyboost and/or the
additional 2GB of memory and try again?
Oh the final message I get tells me to go to microsoft.com, search for
upgrade advisor. The results of my running upgrade advisor on it is that I
should download a new driver for my network adapter to be installed after the
Ultimate is installed.
Help please.
Thanks.

Did you turn off your anti-virus software? I had this problem when I
installed SP1. It wasn't sufficient to right-click on the anti-virus icon
in the system tray and exit, but after I went to msconfig and unchecked
everything in the Services and Startup tabs that pertained to BitDefender,
the install finished without a hitch.
